Part 4 of 4
By: Jason Froehlich, Martial Arts Master, Cognitive Coach, and Author
This has been a long journey we’ve been on together. If you’re still with me, first, I want to thank you for your time. I hope this manifesto has served you well. If nothing else, I hope it gives you some amazing insights into helping your child improve their self-confidence, self-esteem, or self-image.
Second, I want to leave you with something that I am hoping you will find useful and encouraging.
Lastly, if you want this relationship we are building together to progress there will be a next step you can further explore to help you impact your child’s life.
So, let’s get going on this final section of the manifesto...
This last part is for you, the parent who wants to be part of the confidence improvement journey with your child and be the master builder. This definitely isn’t for the parent who wants to take a backseat or turn this over to someone else by simply dropping them off at some activity that says they are going to turn your child into a confidence beast.
Like all the previous pages, I am going to give you some context and then unpack it with insights, but in this one I am going to give you a resource that can help you achieve what you might be searching for.
In my current lifetime, I have served and helped thousands of children and parents achieve an improvement in self-confidence, self-esteem, and self-image.
If I had a superpower, this would be it. I work best with these types of students because I used to be one of them. I used to be shy, timid, slow to try anything new, bullied, and would take forever to come out of my shell to be social. Social awkwardness and anxiety is something I learned to manage and cope with to become who I was meant to be.
The vehicle that has helped me drive this improvement and transformation has been martial arts. You can read more around my life-changing story here.
But honestly, I didn’t drive all this change and transformation all by my lonesome. I wasn’t the hero who came flying in and saved the day for countless parents. It wasn’t my staff and it surely wasn’t the style of martial arts that drove the improvement or transformation.
It is more like the old saying, “It takes a village to raise a child.” It was a combination of all of us, but there was one hero in each of these stories that stood out. It was you, the parent. You are their first and will be their last teacher. You have the power to influence your child in ways that I, nor anyone else will never have.
Your children are around you more than anyone else. I am probably not telling you anything you don’t already know. But, what you might not believe is that you can improve their confidence. Maybe you tried a whole lot of things, activities, or techniques with little to no improvement.
Maybe you have even tried martial arts with no success.
The problem you face isn’t in the techniques or activities, it is in the strategy, mainly around the philosophy, approach, and spirit of it.
Done in a way that is child-focused and confidence-building-centric, you can influence them in a positive direction that they improve upon. It isn’t about doing their best or being the best (I know this is counterintuitive to that “growth mindset” movement).
It is about Kaizen: constant and never ending improvement.
It is about getting a one degree more improvement than they did last time. But, this isn’t even about tomorrow, it is about just improvement. Improvement takes time, an infinite amount of time (remember, infinite player). There is no desired outcome, just improvement.
And that improvement, they gotta earn.
An example of this is, Gage, one of my young six-year old students who has been working for over one year in my program. With slow and steady progress he showed a huge advancement in improvement yesterday (Sept. 1st, 2020) in his ability to remain confident, focused, and on task for a complete 45 minute class.
But, it wasn’t just yesterday we applauded. It was every training session over the last one year that he has been persistently working, that came to an enlightened moment.
So, here is what I want to leave you with in this final installment of my manifesto. It has been the involvement of a parent-coach who has become The Master Builder.
Yes, I have a home-study course outlining the system and a weekly program that continues to build upon the home-study course, but it isn’t just me. It is the combination of my guidance of the strategy, and you, the parent (in the case above, Gage, both parents) who got personally involved in this process.
Your child looks up to you, so there is no better person that can help them, that can influence them, that can inspire them, that can teach them, and that can build them into powerful kids.
You hold all the power to be the hero in your child’s life.
If this speaks to you, if this moves you, or if this is what you have been looking for, then let’s go a little bit further together. There is nothing to purchase. I am here to build a relationship with you and for us to get to know more about each other and the philosophy I am talking about before anything like that.
